The VIOFO A119 V3 records the road ahead at 2560 × 1600 (QHD+) and 30FPS using a 5MP Sony STARVIS sensor. The included GPS mount adds location, speed and time to your footage, and a 2-inch screen lets you set up and review the camera without a phone. It's a straightforward choice for drivers who want dependable local recording at a lower price.

This package includes a front camera only. There is no rear camera, and one cannot be added. The camera has no Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or voice control. A memory card, the VIOFO HK3 Mini-USB hardwire kit and the CPL-100 filter are sold separately. Parking recording needs constant power from the HK3 kit.

Parking recording and power

The optional VIOFO HK3 Mini-USB hardwire kit provides constant power, an ignition signal and voltage protection. The USB-C HK4 and HK6 kits do not fit this camera's Mini-USB connection. A dedicated dash cam battery also needs the correct output cable and parking signal.

• Auto Event Detection saves a buffered clip that includes footage from before the detected event.
• Time-lapse reduces the recording frame rate to stretch storage.
• Low-bitrate mode keeps a continuous record in smaller files.

Parking coverage depends on the available power, settings and temperature. The supercapacitor is not a battery for standalone recording.

Storage and mounting

Use a compatible high-endurance microSD card up to 256GB. Loop recording overwrites older unlocked files, so save incident clips to a computer promptly, and turn the camera off before removing the card.

The camera slides off its mount when you need to remove it. The optional suction-cup mount cannot be combined with the GPS mount, so use the supplied GPS mount when you want GPS data in recordings.

Setup notes

Fit the camera behind the rearview mirror where you can still reach the card slot and buttons. Clean the lens and windshield, aim the camera using its screen and check a short test recording for reflections before finalizing the setup. Route the power lead clear of airbag paths. The optional CPL-100 filter can reduce dashboard reflections.
