VIOFO A229 Plus 2CH Dual 2K STARVIS 2 Dash Cam

Record the road ahead and behind in 2K with the VIOFO A229 Plus 2CH dash cam. Both cameras use Sony STARVIS 2 sensors, while a built-in screen, GPS and nearby Wi-Fi access help you set up the system and review an incident without moving to a 4K camera.

This package includes front and rear cameras, with no cabin camera. Choose front 2K recording at 60FPS with HDR off, or 30FPS with HDR on. The rear records 2K at 30FPS. A compatible microSD card, parking hardwire kit and CPL filters are sold separately.

Local access, storage and recording limits

Wi-Fi connects a nearby phone, and GPS adds context to saved footage. This model has no built-in LTE or Cloud service for remote viewing, live tracking or parking push alerts. Stop recording before changing settings, then resume it before driving.

Both cameras record to the microSD card in the front unit. Use a compatible high-endurance card up to 512GB; no card is included. External-SSD recording is not supported. The USB-C connector does not add the A329 family's SSD feature.

Privacy mode keeps only the latest four ordinary files in this 2CH configuration. Leave it off when you want the normal recording history. Export important clips before changing recording settings or formatting the card.

Parking recording and power

The optional VIOFO HK4 hardwire kit supplies constant power, an ignition signal and a battery cutoff through the GPS mount's USB-C input. Match fuse taps to the vehicle and verify ignition switching after installation. The current manual also supports HK6; the optional HK6 is required for a vehicle-voltage stamp. A switched vehicle socket cannot keep recording once it stops supplying power.

• Buffered Auto Event Detection: Triggered clips with buffered recording.
• Time-lapse: A condensed view without audio; a Night Vision option is available with 1FPS time-lapse.
• Low-bitrate recording: Continuous video and audio in smaller files.

Current settings support up to three parking geofence zones where the camera powers off instead of entering parking recording. Outside those zones, or with weak or lost GPS reception, it enters parking mode. Check the zones and test the selected mode using the A229 Plus manual for your installed firmware.

A separate parking battery, such as a PowerCell 8 with the matching VIOFO connection, is another option. Runtime depends on available power, cutoff settings, temperature and mode. Parking capability is not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 recording.

Installation and setup notes

Aim both cameras, keep the rear window clear and check a short saved recording before finalizing installation. For reflection control, choose the optional CPL-200 front and CPL-300 rear filters. Adjust the filters using live view and a short test recording before completing the setup.

Spoken status notifications report camera or memory-card issues separately from voice commands. Test your chosen recording, audio and parking settings before relying on the system.

Use documentation and firmware for the exact model and connected cameras. A229 Pro, Plus, Tele and Ultra firmware files differ, and the front and rear cameras use different files. VIOFO warns not to update a functioning rear camera with its listed rear release; follow support instructions if troubleshooting it. Current front-update instructions warn against downgrading. Back up clips and settings, maintain power and recheck recording, HDR, audio and parking after an update.

For passenger recording, the separate A229 Plus 3CH kit adds a 1080p infrared cabin camera, with all three views recording at 30FPS. For higher front resolution, the A229 Pro uses an 8MP IMX678 front sensor for 4K instead of this Plus model's 5MP IMX675 for 2K. Choose the exact camera package for the views you need.
