The VIOFO A229 Ultra 3CH records 4K ahead and 4K behind, so following traffic gets the same detail as the road in front. A separate 1080p infrared fisheye camera with a 210° view records the cabin, which makes this system a strong fit for rideshare, taxi and other passenger-carrying drivers. A 2.4-inch screen helps with setup, and local Wi-Fi lets a nearby phone review saved footage.

This package includes front, rear and infrared cabin cameras. A front CPL-200 filter and an 18-month manufacturer warranty are included. A memory card, hardwire kit, rear CPL-600 filter and remote are sold separately. Parking recording needs compatible constant power, such as the optional VIOFO HK4 or HK6 hardwire kit.

• Multi-system GPS: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou support adds location, speed and time to saved recordings.
• Voice controls and notifications: lock a video, take a photo or start recording by voice. Spoken alerts flag camera or memory-card problems.

Understand the cabin view

The fisheye lens gives a wide view of the interior, but seats, passengers and the mounting angle can still block parts of it. Mount the cabin camera where its lens and infrared LEDs have a clear view, and check a night recording after installation. Cabin recording can be set to run while driving, while parked, or both.

Parking recording and power

Parking recording requires constant power from an optional VIOFO HK4 or HK6 hardwire kit, connected through the GPS mount. The kit cuts power at your chosen battery-voltage threshold. Choose HK6 if you also want the vehicle voltage shown on recordings.

• Buffered event recording saves 15 seconds before and 30 seconds after detected activity.
• Time-lapse records continuously at a low frame rate without audio; 1FPS supports Night Vision.
• Low-bitrate mode records continuous video and audio in smaller files.
• Up to three parking geofence zones can turn the camera off at chosen locations, such as a home garage.

Runtime depends on the power source, cutoff settings, temperature and recording mode. Parking-impact notices appear on the camera at the next startup; they are not sent to your phone.

Storage and connectivity

A high-endurance microSD card up to 512GB is required and sold separately. Two 4K channels and a cabin channel fill a card faster than a single-camera setup, so plan storage accordingly. Privacy mode keeps only the latest six ordinary files in this three-camera setup.

Wi-Fi is a local camera-to-phone connection. There is no built-in LTE or cloud service for remote viewing, live tracking or parking push alerts, and this model does not record to an external SSD. Wired phone transfer depends on your phone and cable; VIOFO reports up to 20MB/s on supported iPhones.

Setup and firmware notes

Clean the windshield, rear window and lenses, then aim each camera and check test recordings before finalizing installation. Set up the camera and practice voice commands while parked. Check the time zone and daylight-saving settings during setup, since buildings and windshield coatings can affect GPS reception.

Use the A229 Ultra firmware only; Pro, Plus and Tele files are not substitutes. Back up recordings and settings, keep stable power during updates, and recheck every channel afterward. Current front updates reset settings and advise against downgrading.
