The road ahead, the traffic behind and the cabin in between.
The VIOFO A229 Pro 3CH records 4K ahead, 2K behind and 1080p inside the vehicle, all at 30FPS. It suits rideshare, taxi and other passenger-carrying drivers who want a separate record of the road and the interior. A 2.4-inch screen helps you aim the cameras, and local Wi-Fi lets you review saved clips on your phone.
This package includes front, rear and infrared cabin cameras. A front CPL-200 filter and an 18-month manufacturer warranty are included. A memory card, hardwire kit, rear CPL filter and remote are sold separately. Parking recording needs compatible constant power, such as the optional VIOFO HK4 hardwire kit.
Key features
-
4K front recording: 3840 × 2160 video at 30FPS from an 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor with a 140° field of view.
-
2K rear recording: a 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor with a 160° view keeps a clear record of following traffic.
-
1080p infrared cabin camera: a 2MP Sony STARVIS IMX307 sensor and 150° F1.8 lens. Infrared can be set to On, Off or Auto; infrared footage is black and white.
-
HDR on all three cameras: helps balance bright headlights and darker surroundings. The included CPL-200 filter reduces windshield reflections on the front camera.
-
Dual-band Wi-Fi and GPS: review and download clips through the VIOFO app over 2.4GHz or 5GHz. GPS adds location, speed and time to your footage.
-
Voice controls and notifications: save a clip or take a photo by voice. Spoken alerts help flag recording or memory-card problems.
Parking recording and power
Parking recording requires constant power. The optional VIOFO HK4 hardwire kit supplies constant power, an ignition signal and a battery cutoff through the GPS mount's USB-C port. The current manual also lists HK6 support, and vehicle-voltage stamping requires the HK6.
- Buffered event recording saves triggered clips.
- Time-lapse creates condensed footage without audio.
- Low-bitrate mode records continuous video and audio in smaller files.
- Night Vision is available with 1FPS time-lapse.
- Up to three parking geofence zones can turn the camera off at chosen locations, such as a home garage.
Runtime depends on the power source, cutoff settings, temperature and recording mode. The cabin camera can be set to record while driving, while parked, or both. A switched vehicle socket stops powering the camera when it turns off.
Storage and connectivity
A high-endurance microSD card up to 512GB is required and sold separately. All three cameras save to the card in the front unit, so footage fills it faster than a single-camera setup. Loop recording replaces older ordinary files; locked incident files also use finite space. Copy important clips promptly.
Privacy mode keeps only the latest six ordinary files in this three-camera setup, so leave it off if you want your normal recording history. Wi-Fi is a local camera-to-phone connection. There is no built-in LTE or cloud service for remote viewing, live tracking or parking push alerts, and this model does not record to an external SSD.

Setup and firmware notes
Clean the windshield and lenses, then aim each camera and check a test recording before finalizing installation. Mount the cabin camera so it views the seats without blocking your view of the road, and confirm infrared footage at night. Set up the camera and practice voice commands while parked. Run cables carefully around trim and airbags; a full three-camera hardwired install can take a few hours.
Use firmware for the exact A229 Pro model. Front and rear cameras use different files, and VIOFO advises against updating a rear camera that is working normally. Back up recordings and settings, keep stable power during updates, and recheck recording, HDR, audio and parking afterward.
