Capture the road ahead, traffic behind and activity inside your vehicle with the VIOFO A229 Plus 3CH dash cam. Dual 2K front and rear cameras pair with a 1080p infrared cabin camera for drivers who want passenger coverage as well as road footage, including taxi and rideshare use.
This package includes front, rear and infrared interior cameras, not a telephoto camera. With all three connected, recording is 2K front + 2K rear + 1080p cabin at 30FPS. A compatible microSD card and parking hardwire kit are sold separately.
Why choose the VIOFO A229 Plus 3CH?
-
Three views of your journey: Record front and rear road views in 2K and the cabin in Full HD, all at 30FPS.
-
Dual Sony STARVIS 2 road cameras: Front and rear 5MP IMX675 sensors support HDR recording for mixed lighting. The cabin camera uses a separate Sony STARVIS IMX307 sensor, not STARVIS 2.
-
Infrared cabin coverage: The interior camera's infrared illumination supports night recording, with Off, On and Auto settings. Infrared footage is black and white.
-
Nearby Wi-Fi review: Connect the VIOFO app over 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi to review and download footage. Built-in GPS saves position, speed and time information.
-
Voice controls and spoken status: Supported commands can lock a clip, take a photo and operate common controls. Separate spoken notifications help you notice camera or memory-card problems.
-
Parking recording options: Choose buffered Auto Event Detection, time-lapse or low-bitrate recording with an appropriate constant-power installation.
Recording limits and connectivity
This three-camera setup records at 30FPS. The A229 Plus 2CH configuration offers a 2K front 60FPS option with HDR off; do not expect that setting with all three cameras connected. HDR is supported on all supplied cameras, with front HDR at 30FPS.
Wi-Fi works with a nearby phone. This model does not provide LTE or Cloud remote viewing, live vehicle tracking or remote parking push alerts. GPS adds context to saved recordings rather than remote tracking. The USB-C connection does not support external-SSD recording.
All connected cameras share the microSD card in the front unit. Choose a compatible high-endurance card up to 512GB; none is included. Privacy mode retains only the latest six ordinary files in this 3CH configuration, so leave it off when you want the normal recording history. Export important clips before changing recording settings or formatting storage.
Parking power and modes
The optional VIOFO HK4 hardwire kit connects to constant power, ignition and ground through the GPS mount's USB-C input, with a battery cutoff. Match fuse taps to your vehicle and check ignition switching after installation. The current manual also supports HK6; a vehicle-voltage stamp requires the optional HK6. A switched vehicle socket cannot keep the camera recording after it stops supplying power.
-
Buffered Auto Event Detection: Triggered parking clips with buffered recording.
-
Time-lapse: A condensed view without audio; a Night Vision option is available with 1FPS time-lapse.
-
Low-bitrate recording: Continuous video and audio in smaller files.
These are A229 Plus modes, not the A329 family's hybrid or low-power impact standby modes. Current settings support up to three parking geofence zones where the camera powers off instead of entering parking recording. Outside those zones, or with weak or lost GPS reception, it enters parking mode. Check the zones in your installation before relying on them.
A separate parking battery, such as a PowerCell 8 with the matching VIOFO connection, is another power option. Runtime depends on available power, cutoff settings, temperature and recording mode; continuous parking coverage is not guaranteed.

Installation and setup notes
Configure the system while parked, then check saved footage from every camera after installation. Stop recording before changing camera settings and resume afterwards. Current settings can enable the cabin camera during driving, parking or both.
Optional CPL-200 fits the front camera and CPL-300 fits the rear; the infrared cabin camera does not require a CPL filter. Adjust filters against reflections using live view and a short test recording before finalizing installation. Optional BlackboxMyCar Aqua Shield can be placed on the windshield; follow its installation guide to keep the camera view clear.
Use documentation and firmware for the exact model and connected cameras. The A229 Pro, Plus, Tele and Ultra use different firmware. Front and rear cameras also use different files. Follow VIOFO support instructions before troubleshooting rear firmware: VIOFO warns not to update a functioning rear camera with its listed rear release. Current front-update instructions warn against downgrading. Back up clips and settings, maintain power during updates, and recheck recording, HDR, audio and parking afterwards.
The A229 Pro family uses an 8MP IMX678 front sensor for 4K recording; this Plus uses a 5MP IMX675 front sensor for 2K. Both families offer 2K STARVIS 2 rear cameras and 1080p infrared cabin options. Choose the exact channel package for the views you need.
