Wide road coverage, a closer view ahead and a separate rear view.
The VIOFO A229 Pro Tele 3CH combines a wide 4K front camera, a fixed 2K forward-facing telephoto camera and a separate 1080p rear camera. You get complementary views of the road ahead and following traffic. The wide camera captures surrounding road context while the narrower telephoto view helps show more distant detail.
The front and telephoto cameras both face forward. A separate rear-window camera records behind your vehicle. No cabin camera is included. All three supplied cameras record at 30FPS with HDR. A front CPL-200 filter and an 18-month manufacturer warranty are included. A memory card, hardwire kit, remote and additional filters are sold separately.
Key features
-
4K front recording: 3840 × 2160 video at 30FPS, with an 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor and a 140° field of view.
-
2K forward telephoto recording: a 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor and fixed F2.0 lens with a 35° field of view. VIOFO describes this as 4× optical zoom relative to the wide front view, not a motorized or adjustable zoom.
-
Separate rear recording: 1080p video at 30FPS with a 2MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX662 sensor, F1.8 aperture and 160° field of view.
-
HDR and reflection control: HDR helps balance bright and dark areas. The included front CPL-200 filter reduces windshield reflections. The telephoto camera uses the optional CPL-500 filter, and the rear camera uses optional CPL-600, not the ordinary A229 Pro rear camera’s filter.
-
Local dual-band Wi-Fi: review and download clips through the VIOFO app using a nearby phone over 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi. Transfer speed varies with your phone and surroundings.
-
GPS recording: location, speed and time add context to saved footage. The GPS module supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou.
-
Voice controls and notifications: supported commands include saving video and taking photos. Spoken notifications help flag recording or memory-card problems. Commands support English, Chinese, Russian and Japanese; other interface languages use English commands.
Understand the telephoto view
The fixed telephoto lens concentrates on a smaller area ahead. Aim it carefully and check saved daylight and nighttime recordings after installation. Its narrow view can miss events outside the center of the road, so review it alongside the wide front footage.
Readable license plates are not guaranteed. Speed, distance, light, glare, weather and camera alignment affect results. The front camera records 4K at 30FPS, not 60FPS. Telephoto settings can be set to On, Off, Only On while Driving or Only On while Parking; check saved channels after changing them.
Parking recording and power
Parking recording requires compatible continuous power. The optional VIOFO HK4 hardwire kit supplies constant power, an ignition signal and a battery cutoff through the GPS mount’s USB-C port. The existing model documentation also lists HK6 compatibility; vehicle-voltage stamping requires HK6.
- Buffered event recording saves triggered clips.
- Time-lapse creates condensed footage without audio.
- Low-bitrate mode records continuous video and audio in smaller files.
- Night Vision is available with 1FPS time-lapse.
- Up to three parking geofence zones can turn the camera off at selected locations. Outside those zones, or with weak or lost GPS reception, it enters parking mode.
Runtime depends on the power source, cutoff settings, temperature and camera settings. Connect constant power, ignition and ground correctly, select the parking mode and battery cutoff, and test ignition switching and every camera’s recordings. A switched vehicle socket stops powering the system when it turns off. Test geofence zones at their actual locations.
Storage and connectivity
A high-endurance microSD card up to 512GB is required and sold separately. All connected views save to the card in the front unit. Loop recording replaces older ordinary files as the card fills; additional channels consume storage faster. Locked incident files also use finite space. Copy important original clips promptly and check card health and formatting regularly.
Privacy mode retains only the latest six ordinary files for this three-channel configuration. Leave it off if you need the usual recording history. Export important files before changing settings or formatting storage.
This model does not record to an external SSD. Wi-Fi is a local connection, not remote cloud access. There is no built-in LTE or cloud service for remote viewing, live tracking or parking push alerts. The optional BTR200 remote provides a physical clip-lock button and configurable controls.

Setup and firmware notes
Clean the windshield and lenses, aim the front and telephoto cameras forward and the rear camera backward through a clear area of the rear window. Route the rear cable clear of airbags and moving parts, and check test recordings for reflections before finalizing installation. Windshield coatings, surrounding buildings and satellite visibility can affect GPS reception. Confirm GPS reception and time settings after installation. Set up the system while parked, practice supported voice commands and check important recordings only when safe to stop.
Use firmware for the exact A229 Pro Tele configuration. The front firmware file is FWA229PT; the listed EthcamTxFW file is specifically for the telephoto camera. Ordinary A229 Pro rear-camera firmware is not a substitute. Back up recordings and settings, use stable power and follow the exact manufacturer update instructions. Current front updates reset settings and advise against downgrading. The A229 Pro manual covers several camera configurations; only the cameras listed above are included in this package.
