Record the road ahead in 4K HDR without adding cameras you do not need. The VIOFO A229 Pro 1CH pairs an 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 sensor with an included CPL filter to help capture detail and reduce windshield reflections. A built-in display, dual-band Wi-Fi and GPS make it easier to frame your view, review recordings and add context to a journey.

Front-Only Package

This 1-channel package supplies one front camera. No rear or cabin camera is included, even when other A229 Pro configurations appear in manufacturer demonstrations. The front CPL-200 filter and Quad-GPS mount are included. A memory card, parking-mode hardwire kit and BTR200 remote are sold separately.

• 4K HDR at 30FPS: The Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 front sensor records high-resolution footage, while HDR helps balance bright headlights and darker surroundings. This model does not record 4K at 60FPS.
• Included reflection control: The front CPL-200 filter helps reduce windshield reflections. Adjust it using the live preview and a short test recording before finalizing installation.
• Clear framing and controls: A 2.4-inch display and 140° lens help you position the camera and check its view through the windshield.
• Local Wi-Fi and GPS: Use 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi for nearby phone access through the VIOFO app. GPS saves position, speed and time alongside your journey.
• Voice commands and notifications: Save a clip, take a photo and operate supported functions with voice commands. Spoken notifications help identify recording or memory-card problems.
• Parking recording choices: Select buffered events, time-lapse or low-bitrate recording with a compatible continuous power supply.

Parking Mode and Power

The optional VIOFO HK4 hardwire kit connects to constant power, ignition and ground, supplying power and an ignition signal through the GPS mount's USB-C port. Match the fuse taps and cutoff settings to the vehicle, then test ignition switching and recording. A switched accessory socket cannot keep the camera recording after it stops supplying power.

• Buffered Auto Event Detection: Records triggered parking events.
• Time-lapse: Provides a condensed view without audio. A Night Vision option is available with 1FPS time-lapse on supported firmware.
• Low-bitrate: Records continuous video with audio in smaller files.

The listed manual also supports the optional HK6; a vehicle-voltage stamp requires HK6. Check the manual for your installed firmware before selecting features. Parking geofencing supports up to three zones where the camera powers off instead of entering parking mode. Outside those zones, or with weak or lost GPS reception, it enters parking mode. Test zones in your own installation.

A compatible external dash-cam battery pack, such as PowerCell 8 with the matching VIOFO connection, offers another parking power option. Runtime depends on power capacity, cutoff settings, temperature and recording mode. The camera uses a supercapacitor and requires external power.

Connection and Recording Limitations

Wi-Fi works with a nearby phone. It does not provide remote cloud viewing, built-in LTE, live vehicle tracking or push parking alerts. GPS adds information to saved recordings. The optional Bluetooth remote provides physical clip-lock controls; it is not a replacement for the app's Wi-Fi connection.

For this 1-channel configuration, privacy mode retains only the latest two ordinary files. Leave privacy mode off when you want normal recording history, and export important clips before changing recording settings or formatting the card.

The A229 Pro uses an IMX678 sensor for 4K front recording; the A229 Plus uses an IMX675 sensor for 2K front recording. Other channel packages can supply rear or infrared cabin cameras, but those cameras are not included here. Choose the package for the views you need.

Setup and Firmware

Install near the rear-view mirror without blocking your sightline, with the lens looking through an area cleared by the wipers. Clean the glass and lens, frame the road and adjust the CPL filter before checking a test recording. Set up controls while parked. Supported voice-command languages are English, Chinese, Russian and Japanese; other interface languages use English commands. Spoken status notifications are separate from commands.

Stop recording before changing app settings, then resume it before driving. Use the manual and firmware for the exact A229 Pro front camera. Pro, Plus, Tele and Ultra firmware files are different. No rear-camera update is needed for this supplied front-only package. Back up clips and settings, maintain power during updates and recheck recording, HDR, audio and parking afterward. The listed front-camera instructions warn against downgrading firmware.
