This TESERY tow hitch adds a standard 2-inch receiver to the Tesla Model Y. It bolts to the existing rear mounting points, so no drilling is needed. Use it with bike racks, cargo carriers and light trailers that fit within your Tesla's limits.

TESERY rates the hitch hardware to 6,500 lb (2,950 kg), but that is not what your car can tow. Tesla limits Model Y towing to 3,500 lb (1,588 kg) with a 350 lb (159 kg) maximum tongue weight, and lower for some 6-seat configurations. Always follow the owner's manual for your exact vehicle.

This package includes the hitch receiver and mounting hardware only. A ball mount, hitch ball, hitch pin, trailer wiring harness and brake controller are sold separately.

Understand the towing limits

The 6,500 lb figure is the supplier's structural rating for the hitch itself. Your Model Y's towing and tongue-weight limits are set by Tesla and are lower. Tesla lists 3,500 lb towing and 350 lb tongue weight for the 5-seat Model Y. The 6-seat Model Y drops to as low as 2,300 lb and 230 lb with six passengers.

Keep tongue weight at about 4 to 10 percent of the trailer's weight. Bike racks and cargo carriers have a separate vertical-load limit in the owner's manual, and it includes the carrier's own weight. Tesla's manual says ball mounts should not be longer than about 8.7 in (22 cm), and drop mounts should not be used.

Setup notes

Installation takes about an hour and requires removing rear bumper panels to reach the mounting points. TESERY rates the job moderate to advanced and recommends professional installation. Tighten all bolts to the torque in the instructions.

Before towing, test with a light load and re-check the bolts after the first trips. Make sure your trailer lights work with your wiring setup. Third-party hitches are not Tesla-approved accessories, so check how this may affect your warranty.
